Dry cleaning vs wet cleaning: what your fabric needs

“Dry clean only” on a label is a manufacturer’s safe default, not a law of physics. Understanding what each process actually does lets you choose the gentlest option for every garment.

What dry cleaning is

A liquid solvent replaces water, so natural fibres do not swell, tailoring canvas does not relax and unstable dyes do not bleed. Best for wool suits, structured and lined garments, velvet and most silks.

What professional wet cleaning is

Water-based cleaning under full control of temperature, agitation and chemistry. Gentler than solvent for many silks, satins, viscose blends and heavily perspired garments — because perspiration and sugar-based stains are water-soluble.

How we decide

Every garment is inspected and, where needed, tested. Our finishers choose the process per piece — never per label. Read about our dry cleaning and wet cleaning services.
